Water provides optimum support to assist movement, function, strengthening and pain relief. The buoyancy, turbulence and increased hydrostatic pressure of water has significant physiological effects on the human body.

Conditions Treated:

  • Core weakness

  • Arthritis

  • Spinal cord injury

  • Post operative recovery

  • Recovery during fracture healing

The effect of buoyancy or weightlessness provides support for the body making it easier to move for those people who are elderly and have reduced mobility due to weakness and pain. Those people who have suffered a spinal cord injury or stroke can rehabilitate in water more easily.

Increased hydrostatic pressure

The deeper someone is immersed in water the greater the hydrostatic pressure on their body and limbs. This can facilitate reduction in swelling and improves blood circulation which in turn can promote tissue healing.

Moving quickly through the water produces resistance and turbulence which can be used to strengthen weak muscles.
